I've never seen the DMC anime - does anyone know if that was any good, or did it suffer the same problems? |

Well ... It's been three years after the topic was even last updated but I think that now a Golden Sun anime might actually have a chance given the seasonal anime structure can make it so that each game comes out on a different season and with the emergence of Netflix being viable production and streaming platforms for anime as with the Success of things like Castlevania and Devil Man Crybaby it could be feasible. Especially considering the fact that the anime industry is starting to look to western markets and Golden Sun being more successful in the west than Japan (Like so much so that one of the Takahashi brothers said in an interview that the Golden Sun series was as successful in Japan as it is in the west) making it a thing on Netflix could be feasible. That is if each season is around 20 episodes and Netflix releases all those episodes. Though unpopular opinion here, I don't want it to be adapted by Ufotable because of their not good track record when it comes to non Type Moon properties. |

To contribute a bit to that : I think that the original team behind the game should be consultant on an hypothetical anime. However, due to the localisation improving some points and making it really "click" with the fan, in the west... I think they might have the localisation team, well, localise the anime, before they use this "localised" version as the definitive one. this could be a strange creative process, but I think we would get a cartoon/anime, which would be quite close to the spirit of the game we remember. |

For localisation, it might get awkward on the dubber's side of things. Recently, a lot of dubs seem to choose straight up translation over localisation for names, which would be weird for Golden Sun since fans will be used to the localised names and would likely be confused over names they've never seen before. (There's a reason we have Isaac for smash propaganda and not Robin for smash). Also, I've seen some localisations try to localise towards too specific of a target, like making almost every character a different stereotype of east coast US person. I'd just hope it's done right if it happens. As for Ufotable... Honestly, I wouldn't care much who makes the show, as long as they stick to the spirit of the game with designs and animations, but Ufotable do have a history of being pretty good with making combat animations animations look like powered-up realistic rather than over the top flashy. And besides combat animations, well, the difference isn't noticeable enough for me to be bothered by it unless it's strikingly bad. Also, their track record with non Type-Moon isn't a very large pool, considering it's mostly Type-Moon and Tales.(God Eater crashed and burned, but Touken Ranbu looked great as far as I'm concerned) |

Yeah I do think that localization might get awkward even if you have the original team behind it due to using straight up translations vs everyone being familiar with the localized names. Which is why I ended up thinking it could be a Netflix or Amazon produced project to possibly get around the translation/localization issues. Though that in itself comes with the problem of having rather unpredictable season lengths as well with netflix seasons of a show can range anywhere from four episodes to twelve and if you want to go for the "each game is a season" model you need to hope for that twelve episode deal. And yes ufotable does have good action animation hell they makes some of the most beautiful animation but when it comes to adapting ... yeah if it's not Type Moon, with the exception of Touken Ranbu it's stuff that the fans of the source material tend to hate (And well you don't need to look any further than God eater and their adaptations of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Zestiria, with the latter being absolutely loathed among fans with it only being liked by fanboys who consider Alisha to be their waifu). So because of this I'd rather have either production IG, Wit studio, Bones or even Madhouse to take care of the animation and adapting. Though with the last one there are gonna be jokes of the thing never getting done. |
