I read somewhere that totally 100% purified water would be very unhealthy for you, since the human body relies on the natural minerals in water from sources like (unpolluted) rivers and so on. Minerals of course have their own taste and chemical structure. People with a strong sense of taste can tell different sources of water apart. To me, of course, most unpurified city water tastes like a cup of vomit, because I'm from the Australian country, where water is obviously less polluted than the rivers of Sydney or Melbourne. Light only knows how I'd deal with drinking water in a really big city in another nation (Aussie city population standard is pretty damn small internationally). Personally, I like water caught directly from rain. It is as pure as it gets without losing a natural source, and the refreshing/healthy qualities are hard to beat because (unless you live near, say, Chernobyl) it's much less exposed to pollution than water that's sourced from a river. There's also something very satisfying on a survival level to have rainwater storage tanks. I think I miss our old house we sold now... oh well. We rely on a purifier where we live now, to make the river water taste about half as good as rainwater. |

From experience I can tell you distilled water has a less noticeable taste than regular water. (Had a special plant that needed it when rain water or sun purified water wasn't available.) Drinking it in small amounts doesn't make you sick, but only drinking distilled water for an extensive amount of time will cause a few negative side effects. |

Well, today is the day, this afternoon I'll buy some and try it. But now that I think of it... perhaps cipher should include "distilled water" in his thread of exotic foods and give us one of those super-neat descriptions of the taste and feeling?

Hahaha. Well the verdict is... it totally has a taste!! No kidding. It does. It tastes like... water, but much more bitter. I would say "darker", but probably that's synesthesia talking... |
