What does it mean? Why should anyone care? Why do we bother with it? |
WHY ARE WE STILL HERE... ...JUST TO SUFFER?!

isn't it all any of us has or knows? I mean...it's everything. Maybe we don't matter in a cosmic sense, but to each individual, life is...everything. Everything good or bad or in between. It's possibility and choice and hope and excitement and despair I mean...you can't put a quantitative value on it. |

I would never say that one life is more valuable than another, or that such things can be measured in terms of "how much stuff you did." While you can certainly say that people such as Gandhi or Mother Theresa were incredibly important and good and did a ton with their lives, living them "to the fullest" as one might say, it's truly impossible to measure, nor should we. You have no idea what "value" you are providing to the world just through your existence, whether it is because others care about you or because you fulfill an important role without realizing it. That being said, we also can't really say a person has spent their life doing nothing until they're dead. Every moment you're alive is another chance to do something, big or small. And while some people "waste" their youth, and others become complacent in old age, I think everyone fluctuates throughout their lives. Some great composers started being great at the age of 6. Others didn't write anything noteworthy until they were old. You can't measure it, Cat. Life is inherently valuable, but we are obligated by being alive to use it for something good. |

'Good' as in not evil? Because of course that wouldn't be true. And if it were, could you really consider the life of someone who only seeks to end other lives as valuable? In fact that doesn't even necessarily mean an evil person doing the killing... |

I don't know the answer. In fact I think there is no unique answer, but the answer is different for each person. But I suspect that in coming up with your own answer to this question lies the essence of growing up. Actually, I should have said that there may be a objetive answer, but I think there is no way to know it, and in doing your best to guess the answer lies the essence of growing up. Even if there is an objective answer, I do not believe that we as humans are obligated to subvert out personal subjective answer in order to honor the objective one. |

Priceless enough to make others expendable, all to protect the former pricelessness? |

This value is not something that can be lost. |
