People were still in their "take what you've earned by fighting" mindset, I think. Civilisation is still struggling out of that in some places, of course.
There's really no better way to do it until the availability of resources outweigh the demand for them. Even in the fortunate civilized the world the "fighting" has simply changed forms to be less violent.

@Silva

I was born at 11:00am on the dot. I've never seen anything be specific about birth time (not that I've ever looked into it). So what's your expert opinion? Gemini or Cancer?
I'll have to look into this a bit later, the old school way of doing this is a lot of math, and I have busy day planned out. But if you're curious to check this yourself, there's a lot of decent sites around the web that can draw your chart up for you easily based on your birth time, date, and rough location (which all make slight adjustments to the apparent position of the sun in an astrological sign, which defines your star sign). This one could give you a quick answer: https://alabe.com/freechart (submit the form then just scroll down to what the Sun is in for your sign).
Posted ImageAnnnnd there you go, also right on the line.

Now the write-ups below it say 29° Gemini, but that's obviously B.S. because I'm obviously more Cancer than Gemini.

Somewhat related to all this... have you heard of the Forer effect? It's actually one of the most surprising things I have ever learned.

I hadn't heard the name before, but the principle behind it feels like common knowledge.

I wasn't trying to insult! It's just always been the common opinion between me and my friends, in reference to subjects like astrology and why they are popular. There's nothing wrong with not having been exposed to the idea before, or whatever, I just felt like it was a fairly wide-spread idea.

@Harly: Do you mean "Astrology"? Astronomy is a proper and respected science, after all.

Arg, yes. I know the difference, but I tend to make that mistake pretty often while typing. >.>

Whoa, I'm actually Mars! Leo here.

I guess it's because I have no common sense...like Tyrell...?
Tyrell takes offense to that.

I'm a Leo, so I'm apparently fire.
Yay, another Leo!

alright maybe I should compare the clumsiness instead x)

I'm a Scorpio, which is a oddly enough water. You'd think fire, right? But i guess venom makes it more liquidy?

Poor Silva, for having his long explanation go unnoticed. :P

Scorpio has always been considered a water sign. The Scorpion is interpreted as a symbol of crawling emotions in the night, the emotions that motivate us at our core, the desire or passion that drive men to great OR terrible things - Agape versus Lust, if you like, highest love versus lowest. That's the contradiction of Scorpio. Emotions ARE water, in the classical elemental sense, just as fire is the spirit, earth the body, and air the mind. We aren't meant to so much think of elements so literally as their physical aspects in astrology ... more as what they refer to in the being. People born with the Sun in Scorpio are also described by astrological literature as very emotional people, who keep most of their feelings bottled up under a mask of repression, almost a poker face, only exploding over something very important and intense (especially in the teenage years).
