Which is your element, according to astrology?; ...and how would clan distribution change?

According to astrology, every zodiac sign is related to one of 4 classic elements. Which is yours? Here is a table that will tell you your sign if you don't know it.

It will be interesting to see how would the distribution of people in clans change if each of us were in the clan corresponding to their birth astrological element.

Oh, that's like a real thing? I wasn't sure if it was an actual thing or if you had just associated them as best you could. And Scorpio is Mercury? Bizarre to me.

Okay, well Sylvan will come in here and explain it tonight. In the meantime, that's me.

I'd be Venus, with a little bit of fire depending on which calendar you use: The 22nd of April is on the cusp of Aries. ::):

Ancient astrology was all about symmetry. I suppose the first four zodiac signs are associated with the element that suits them most (Aries=Ram=Power?,Taurus=Bull=Robustness?,Gemini=Twins=Spirit-breath?,Cancer=Crab=Sea?), and then the sequence is repeated for the other eight.

Apparantly I am Jupiter, although i put no weight on this. I am a Mercury at heart and always will be. Even if Jupiter is my second favourite.

Silva explained the Water-bearer-not-being-Mercury thing to me, but I don't remember what it was it's been too long.

I would be a Sagittarius which would put me with Mars. What a nice coincidence that I'm in Mars now. :D

Ah yes, the inconsistency of Astrology. Am I a Cancer, or am I a Gemini? June 21st varies often. This one puts me at Cancer, which I tend to identify myself as. If only to be different from my Gemini sister.

Soooo Water, I guess. Which is basically accurate. Astrology proven true gaiz.

I'd be in the Mercury camp, in that case.

Sagie: Nikki definitely gave part of the answer. Patterns are part of astrology. There are a certain number of signs of each element, and equality of type as well (fixed, mutable, cardinal), which count through the twelve signs in harmony in a circle. Astrology is, after all, a belief system founded on some thought that there is order in the universe beyond our capacity for understanding, except for the constellations we understand are consistent in our view from where we are, so alignments and patterns and equality of elements is part of why. I have more to add about the Water-Bearer than simply "there has to be a pattern because there must be order in the potential-Creator's universe", though, of course.

The Water-Bearer is a man carrying water. Aquarius isn't the water he bears, which is meant to be symbolic of the wisdom of the gods being poured down from Heaven. Aquarius is the man bearing the water, and in giving (transporting) the wisdom to the earth, he takes on the elemental force of wind (just as the air holds up lighter water vapour to form clouds, and eventually, rain falls). Aquarius is meant to be the sign that gives the wisdom of emotion, without necessarily being emotional itself. Aquarius is also what's considered a "fixed air" sign, meaning that it can sometimes become blocked in its mind-focused temperament, sometimes given to storms of anger or passion. Rain comes to mind again, in that it comes from the sky (air) after a buildup of heavier water (emotion).

Thus, wind/air, Jupiter. Hope that helps. ^^

Diego: Scorpio has always been considered a water sign. The Scorpion is interpreted as a symbol of crawling emotions in the night, the emotions that motivate us at our core, the desire or passion that drive men to great OR terrible things - Agape versus Lust, if you like, highest love versus lowest. That's the contradiction of Scorpio. Emotions ARE water, in the classical elemental sense, just as fire is the spirit, earth the body, and air the mind. We aren't meant to so much think of elements so literally as their physical aspects in astrology ... more as what they refer to in the being. People born with the Sun in Scorpio are also described by astrological literature as very emotional people, who keep most of their feelings bottled up under a mask of repression, almost a poker face, only exploding over something very important and intense (especially in the teenage years).

Astrology is a deeply symbolic system, very given to interpretation. I love it and understand it, although I don't practice it so fervently anymore as I once did. It's a lot of fun to discuss and study as a partly religious practice that influenced human thought a lot in its best days.

Ash: you know, technically, if you know your birth time of day and date down to the minute, astrologically, the Sun is always considered to be in one sign or another. There's no particular "inconsistency" there. The way people interpret "cusps" (the idea that someone is "both signs" due to being near the "edge" of two different signs) is largely spread by poor understanding of astrology in general, from what I have seen (cusps are more of an an imperfect interpretive concept, mostly used when someone's exact birth time is not known for one reason or another).

Hehe, indeed. Oh Zeus. Although, to be fair, stealing and bedding ladies was practically expected at the time, so it made sense that the fairly-imperfect gods did it. ;) And the ancient Greeks didn't frown upon many of the kinds of "tastes" which we would consider disgraceful in modern times.
