For me, top examples would be: - Me, as in my persona. Who I am is very important to me as it is what makes me unlike the people I despise. - Dad. My role model, and creator of my general interests. |

I'm not sure of how to answer... I take everything seriously but jokes. What do you mean? Is it like what are the things you mostly care about? |

Hm, I don't know. I think the best way I can answer this sort of has to do with how we deal with jokes. There are some things we don't joke about. Not many. But some. Like, we'll call each other bad names jokingly but some words we don't use (f word typically used for gays, c word for women, n word) ever. Generally we can joke about most things unless it's something really serious, like I don't like rape or abortion jokes. We have a friend that likes to jokingly blame everything on the Jews but after he's done it like ten times it gets really old and kinda rude. I don't know, I guess basically we tend not to take ourselves too seriously unless it's obvious someone's just being a dick. In that case the, "geez, can't you take a joke" thing doesn't apply. |

I take a South-Park based approach to jokes: nothing is off-limits, but don't use the excuse "it was a joke" when you clearly wanted to offend. |

Everything and nothing, really, it depends. Life can be interpreted either as a black comedy or a very serious, forbidding tale. I think it has both of those flavours, and that most people see what they want to see, seek joy or sorrow as they want to experience them (to enjoy or to grieve and wallow), within reason. There are exceptions, of course, like people with depression, who have less choice in what they feel and how they interpret what's around them. There are matters about which one should not joke, I think, but they are very few and far between. Certain forms of perversion and the killing of children should never be made into comedy (although this should not be a debate thread unless the OP decides it should be, so I won't do more than clarify my points), because they are the darkest of tragedies due to our natural psychological connections to family and protectiveness of young. Thankfully, comedy is often a great way to bring up serious issues and in a less expected way, not taking something seriously can lead to a great, useful discussion about something seriously important. Of course, not taking something seriously doesn't have to mean making it comedy either. Sometimes it's just something we don't bother about, or feel indifferent towards and take no action about in daily life. It's a bit troubling that certain worldwide issues are being met by some section of the public with a resounding: "Meh". Climate change for example - I always take climate change and effects on environments and species extinction rates very seriously, although it's true that an individual event may not be worth getting angry about, so I don't take that as seriously. If we want to stop destroying our sustainability in this planet, such a goal will involve more than just getting angry at one individual issue. We have to get angry about human consumption and growth itself if we're to stop these kinds of things from continuing to get more frequent and more severe. We shouldn't sweat the small stuff, but the very severe and future-influencing important issues deserve attention and to be taken seriously. Sadly, we could all do more, and take more seriously. Or at least have the decency to make some rather informative jokes about it. |

A lot less than people think, actually. I think what I take the most seriously is my work. This could mean my job as a Data Entry Operator, my work on my system, or even the work I put into a site. I think part of the reasons I'm seen as being overly serious is because there's several sites I've put a ton of effort and love into, only to have it thrown back in my face. I'm still active at one (though nowhere near the contributing member I once was), and have outright sworn off another. Another thing I take seriously would be finances/economics. Though I love my family, I've told my brother that if he doesn't have decent income by June, he can't move in with me as we planned. One of the qualifiers is that he's gotta buy the car from our papa, as a sign I know he's not just going to flake out and leave me paying a multi-person apartment by myself. And don't even get me started with the politics of economics... No seriously. I won't shut up. |

Life in general. But I'm mostly carefree and too childish that I take it very lightly. Unless it's common courtesy and DRIVING, then @*#! gets real |

Driving is a good one. I actually take it quite seriously as well. Some of my friends like to do silly stuff to show off/have fun but I never have the inclination to do those things myself. |

Not me :P When I am behind the wheel and start humming the Mario Kart music, my friends immediately fumble for their seatbelts. |
