You get to make magic a real thing in the real world right now. Whatever kind of magic you want. Do you pick magic from a certain universe, or come up with your own? What rules do you impose on it? Who can use it? How is it obtained? |

I'd be very content with Avatar world Bending really. Besides that, I'd very much like to be able to be that old man that's studied his ass off for decades straight and gets to stand on top of a rock making lightning strike all around him in his robe and wizard hat, and rockin long beard. D&D style learning of finding and scribing and practicing. |

Huh. I've never thought of this before. The option of Final Fantasy is there, but that would be too cliche for me. Erm... I'll get back to you on that one. |

I would love to grow up to be that older woman who keeps the huge library full of ancient magic tomes and has the one secret text they need to save the world and teaches them the ultimate skill. :D |

If the young adventurers can learn the ultimate skill in a timely enough manner to save the world, it isn't ultimate enough for the level of study I'm thinking of. I'm thinking the minimum of one day per spell level type thing. |

Your typical, run-of-the-mill scenario, but with a twist. Make it ridiculously dangerous to cast; I'm talking like random, spontaneous combustion or flat-out death if you slip up one word. It'd be fun to see people try and defend equality when there would be some accents that slip up less than others, thus granting them in effect a better mastery of the magic. I like scenarios like that. |

It would be quite interesting to see how laws and culture change as people get access to dangerous stuff such as magic. Those with the skills would be able to gain power quickly through force or through subversive, mind affecting magic. Some people would always be better at it than others, and even if it wasn't something hard to (or impossible) to control such as accent, I could see the section of the population that can't magic/can't do it well get very angry very quickly at those that can. And if it was something that is completely out of your control, oh boy. Imagine the explosion from modern day people if magic abilities were directly tied to skin color. Government forced control of magical abilities is interesting to think about. Could very quickly slip down the slope of other abilities getting controlled then as well. Then you'd have the magic wielding rebels trying to take down the man. |

Honestly, I'd take the magic from the Harry Potter universe. It's massively versatile, but also very controlled. Beyond that, it's not a simple innate ability and requires real study and understanding to do properly.

I like "personal paradigm"- style magic i.e. each person having a totally different system of magic, constructed by themselves. This makes duels incredibly interesting, since you can never know for sure what kind of strategy your opponent will follow. What I also like about this system is that there would be a complex, genuine "science" of magic i.e. a study of the magical systems which are more efficient in terms of cost (be it "mana" or "years of training") and more versatile. This would also lead to many traditions or styles, since it is easier to copy a technique already existing than to invent your own (especially, if in order to develop a new system of magic, you need lots of time). I'd probably implement a version of GS' system that's in-line with my modifications on the system. |

Both. I like the magic from my book. Versatile, almost as full of variety as nature itself, and anyone can use it. It relies on being a naturally wise being though, interested in the mysteries of existence. It'll make the world pretty chaotic if you bring that magic into the modern world, though. It's fairly effective at destroying things. I'd have to say make it forbidden knowledge that only the wisest philosophers can discover. It'd be amusing reading about Nietzsche learning how to build things with magic. Who's nihilist now!? Nah, who am I kidding? It probably wouldn't change his mind. |
