Santa for: Reversal
Gift:
Spoiler: click to toggle “... of course, he only brings presents to good boys and girls, so maybe you should be careful.” said Garet to Tyrell and Matthew as he used a small bit of fire psynergy to quickly bake some cookies.
It was the first year that the two children were really old enough to understand what they were talking about when he and Isaac told them about Christmas, but they had proven to be really excited about the idea, especially when they spoke about Santa. Wasting no time at all, the youngsters had convinced their parents to put a serious effort into celebrating the holiday, and things were going swimmingly – Garet was taking care of most of the food, while Isaac had just returned from leaving earlier to search for a suitable tree.
“Hey, I've been plenty good! Isn't that right, Matthew?” said Tyrell, his childhood friend silently nodding in agreement. “How does he get all over Weyard in one night anyways?”
At this, Isaac spoke up, saying “Well, they say that he must be a really powerful Jupiter adept, and that he uses psynergy to make Squirrelfangs fly, and that those pull his sled.”
This seemed to satisfy Isaac and Tyrell, but then Garet said, “Oh, but he can't be a Jupiter adept! He has to be Mars – he wears too much red.”
For a few moments, Isaac just sat there, mulling over what he had just said, before giving his own reply. Soon enough, he and Garet were in an argument, though it wasn't even the first they had had today. They didn't really seem too serious about it, though (even less so than usual), so their children didn't really worry about it.
After a while, the house and tree were both decorated, a cookie and milk had been set aside for Santa (if he really was an adept, he would need the extra PP), and the parents announced that they were going to bed – and that Matthew and Tyrell should do the same, because Santa only comes while everyone is asleep!
Of course, they were way too excited for this to work. Both kids laid in bed, staring at the ceiling, before it finally became too much.
“Matthew, this isn't working! Do you wanna eat some of those cookies my dad made?”
Matthew quickly nodded in agreement, and the two snuck back upstairs into the kitchen. As they feasted on the remaining cookies, they spoke about how exciting the holiday was and wondered what they were going to get. By the time they were done, it was really late, and they could feel themselves dozing off...
Crash! It only felt like moments later, but the two found themselves rubbing their eyes as they woke up in response to some sound coming from the general direction of the roof. They looked back and forth at each other and at where the sound had come from, before Tyrell very loudly 'whispered' “Oh no, that must be Santa! What if he catches us awake!”
After a few moments of deliberation, the two agreed that they couldn't do anything but hide. Matthew quickly positioned himself behind the bookshelf, but Tyrell was having a difficult time finding somewhere to go. Panicking as he heard footsteps, he uncomfortably wedged himself under a table, closing his eyes so that he could at least pretend to be asleep if he was caught.
A few minutes passed, and they could hear someone else in the room, over by the tree. There was some shuffling and the sound of boxes moving around, and eventually they could hear the someone eating the cookie they had left out and drinking the milk. It has to be Santa! thought Tyrell, barely able to keep his eyes shut. A few moments later, and he was unable to contain himself any longer – he opened his eyes and stealed a glance at the intruder just as he was leaving the room.
The next morning, nobody could hear the end of it.
“He was dressed in all red, just like dad said!” Tyrell exclaimed to Isaac and Matthew for what must be been the 80th time. He might as well have forgotten completely that they were supposed to be asleep last night, but he and Matthew were so overjoyed that Isaac didn't bother bursting their bubble, relegating himself to watching as they opened their presents and ate more sweets.
Soon enough, Garet wandered out of his bedroom, yawning heavily. It would have been obvious to anybody in the room that he barely gotten any sleep last night, but the children didn't seem to notice as they happily told him about what had happened the night before...
