That's a thing a lot of games have. There are plenty of great games that get panned just because they're compared to the rest of their series. Take Final Fantasy for example. XIII is a good game. It is NOT a good Final Fantasy game, huh. |

I like Alex/Arcanus. He is a good villain for all of the GS games. Although in DD, can he really be called a villain since he was 'helping' in his own way? But anyways, I totally agree that Chalis and Blados could have been better. |

But to what end? Ever wonder how Blados and Chalice magically happened to get past him right when you got to the canon? It's almost they were there to stall you... |

Arcanus definitely. I just like Alex in general! Chalis is great too. |

It has to be Alex/Arcanus; his background and character are deeper. After the first two games, it's hard not to see Blados and Chalis as just another Saturos/Menardi or Agatio/Karst pairing - the two dispensable antagonistic sidekicks to Alex, and whose defeat marks the end of the game, but not of the everlasting Alex v. protagonist story. |

I actually really enjoyed Alex in Dark Dawn. Both his ability/willingness to co-operate with you, his teasing/smug personality (damn am I a sucker for smug characters), his whole subplot with Veriti and Amiti (leaving the Glass thing for you), having that epic fight with Chalis and Blados, etc. And, that compassion for Matthew when he/Sveta were nearly killing themselves getting to the laser, and telling them to stop, out of concern for their health. I was never a huge Alex fan before, but I love his role in DD. The intrigue suggested with the High Empyror, and Chalis and Blados possibly going rogue, was really interesting too. I liked Dark Dawn quite a bit, though I'm aware of a lot of its flaws. I think having a full eight cast was a bit of a mistake - I would've loved if the game started with Amiti in Ayuthuay, and very quickly had you meet up with Sveta, Himi, and Eoleo, and ran with that (much better imo) cast. I think it's also a bit unfair to compare Dark Dawn to games 1 and 2, when Dark Dawn was clearly planned as the first game of another set. I mean, it literally ends in a GS1-esque cliffhanger with a suggestion that Isaac is in imminent danger. So of course it feels incomplete and like there're lots of holes to it. It's like if you only played GS1, stopped, and then judged it based on that. But unfortunately, given how poorly Dark Dawn sold, and how jaded the fanbase is, it's unlikely we'll get the sequel. >.> |

Of course Arcanus is going to be memorable because he's *cough* Alex. But in my head, Chalis was also slightly memorable too? I mostly remember that scene in Kaocho where she triggers the trap door and sents Matthew & co. plummeting down in the Ouroboros. I was kind of motivated to get back at her for doing that. |

To be honest, I only remember *cough* ALEX *cough* and that's because he's not exclusive to Dark Dawn. But maybe I need to give DD another fair shake someday. |
