Relative of http://www.goldensunrise.online/topic/9225831/2/#new . What places would you not want Golden Sun to go, if it continued but went somewhere bad? What series, conventions, genres, mechanics choices, locations, awkward executions, platform types, etc. would you above and beyond not want in your Golden Sun, or at least would generally surpass the Dark Dawn effect in 'meh, not what I wanted in a sequel', or even just fears that it could ruin the fanbase or otherwise ensure the series wouldn't be continued harder than its previous lack of developerside interest. Feel free to justify why (i.e. 'They seriously could not do this well', 'this would not mesh well with the other parts of the series', 'raises way too many questions', 'I just particularly hate this genre/convention/etc. and it doesn't match tonewise', 'do not like this in general and want Golden Sun safely away from such', 'technical limitations would render it awful or at least annoyingly difficult or noticeably marred', etc.) And on the side, what would you want instead (or at least to mitigate the damage to your opinion should they go ahead with the element anyway) (I admit this is partially for polling of what people might and might not want forumside, but I figure it's a general enough idea it could serve as a general series discussion. Also inspired by that one post in corrupting wishes where someone wished for new Golden Sun game and the prompt series revival resulted in serious decay from exploitation) For me it'd be just sorta handwaving all the sequel hooks and leftover remains plot of the first three games or otherwise minimal lore on how anything happened, and again almost entirely ignoring what happened before and in between games beyond some cursory stuff and remaining not finding anything for stuff like Anemos that was vaguely looked into and nothing found or the aftereffects of various game-related shenanigans. We ended on a Mourning Moon for crying out loud, if we're gonna switch to a different batch of kids it'd better be after hearing if everyone we know and love (or at least met for a few minutes and learned almost nothing of their personality, looking at you Himi if you're not actually XANA) was incapacitated or killed by being tossed into a giant psynergy-eating hole in the sky or if the world and the people on it made it out fine. They set up a good amount of material in a series that probably had little room to spare in a game cart for the extraneous...then never used it. Rest in peace and rise in fanfiction, ideas. If a new game existed but was bent on not being world-develop-y unless strictly necessary, my turnaround on it would be a serious focus on character development and maybe being a bit less straightforward archetypes: definitely avoiding 'seriously did you just create a modified clone of this character or an expy that follows their role and call it a day' kids. Play around with people and things whose element or function is interpreted in nontraditional ways (fire healers, talkative djinn beyond tutorial segments, a bit more psynergy flexibility or scaling in psynergy power so that Golden Sun's unique bit isn't that it's actually linear wizards quadratic warriors instead of the other way around (or if it is more crazy staffs or attackpsynergies to make it loud and clear), utility experts that come with more multipurpose ones so that you don't have to run around half the continent because something reacts to one psynergy and not another LOOKING AT YOU LIFT BOULDER BY KRADEN'S HOUSE THAT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN MOVED BY MOVE OR SOMETHING) that still feel Golden Sun style at its core. |

What do you mean "you don't want a Golden Sun FPS"? Who wouldn't love to... Actually, how would that even work? You'd have to screw over laws of the universe to cast psynergy quickly enough to be considered viable in a FPS and there are no guns. |

Gesture hotkeying, or perhaps in the future a NotAVillain Kido-style full immersion VR capable of good enough brainreading for realtime accuracy. And you MAKE guns. More awful ideas: Yume Nikki style. Even less understandable plot would happen! You'd wander around and acquire psynergy items to wander around more and spend the entire game confused as all hell. Someone do this in RPGMaker for the lulz. |
