Creativity and Mastery with Psynergy; What's your stance?

How creative does your headcanon for GS allow people to get with psynergy and related effects? How does one master?

My perspective:
For me it's 'somewhere between bending and a freeform magic system'. If you OOC can come up with a good enough reason as to why, it can probably be done IC, but it's much easier to use powerful alchemy machinery and psynergy cost becomes prohibitive once you get too high, though as infinite psynergy can be acquired from several easily created sources this just becomes a matter of supermassive production equipment (and storing it somewhere where it will not explode, accidentally pattern into expressed matter/energy/something else/a load of world/etc., or otherwise become unusable). Also, while you can pretty much do anything you can imagine with the elemental power available to you (lol power of the mind), bruteforce will takes an ungodly amount of psynergy you usually don't have (like, what Alex did was not enough psynergy to so much as make a lightning storm on free impulse, and that was literally excess from the Golden Sun itself, though in my headcanon that's not actually fairly impressive and is about equivalent to being on all 4 lighthouse aeries at once and it cancels out in your favor and grants you long life and extreme bonus PP regen).

Practiced formulaic spells learned yourself or either learned or conveyed (either in technique or the power to do them cheaply) by djinn are, on the other hand, so cheap they can be cast multiple times in a short battle against a few beasts. Changing djinn shocks your 'psynergy experience profile' so that you have a different selection of psynergy 'premastered' (which gets more adaptive-to-new with experience which is why more combat-experienced adepts get the full psynergy if they change class setup at a high level and only lose the top few if a djinn's expended), but with raw training or an item some spells stick no matter what you are in base class.

For this reason, most adult experienced adepts with more combat experience unaided by djinn or learned with or without djinn (esp. those that match their 'natural capability profile') have access to custom spells inherently or with fewer djinn with the power that it'd take the 16 or so we play as way too much work ingame (lel power creep). Also the abilities ingame are an abstraction and compression of several other abilities that they just aren't that creative with compared to the out of game player (blah blah isaac and felix and matthew 360noscope the 4th wall etc.).

Your thoughts?

I actually am with Nedben on the "bending" perspective. Obviously in an RPG on the GBA you can't allow for free-form whatever, but in-universe I always imagined Psynergy as sort of a free manipulation of whatever your category is, with Djinn allowing for dabbling in different schools or extending your powers into other elements.

They can only do so much for a GBA game with spells and such, but I had a blast years back in an RP where Psynergy was dealt with in the manner Ned just said, if you can come up with a good reason why they can do it, they can. So a Venus Adept can use "Quake," therefore they can move the earth and manipulate it however they like, with larger quantities or more intricate activities requiring more power and skill than just nudging a rock aside.

My view on psynergy gives a very hogh amount of freedom. It's the power of the mind, psynergy is the physical manifestation of it. If it uses an element you are able to wield, does not require more power than you can output, and you can think it, then you can do it.

You want to form ice around your arm to giant ice fist punch someone in the face? Go ahead. Use wind as a deflector bubble shield for projectiles and disrupting incoming psynergy? No problem. Use psynergy for party tricks? Sure.

I don't see why psynergy would be limited to a few very specific predefined forms, that would be weird and make no sense. Most adepts probably have their own signature uses for psynergy they use more often and mastered, and have forms they have a harder time using. Say a jupiter adept could be really good at using hover to the point that flying anywhere is a non-issue, but be completely incapable of reading minds.
