Ever go to a Japanese restaurant and order teriyaki whatever? Ever wonder how they make that sweet sauce that's also savory? Well let me tell you, it's simple to make, but it's not just soy sauce and sugar.![]() There's a little more complexity to this sweet and savory sauce, but it's still a very simple recipe! And today, I'm going to share with you my favorite recipe to make it. Ingredients Soy sauce Honey or sugar 3 Cloves of Garlic Fresh Ginger 1) Pour about 3 cups of soy sauce into a pot and put it on medium heat. 2) Grate the ginger until you have about 1 1/2 tablespoons. Combine with your three cloves of Garlic, also grated. TIP: A clove of garlic looks like the smaller pieces in this image ![]() You can peel them easily by tossing them in a mason jar or Tupperware container and shaking vigorously until the peels come off. 3) When the soy sauce has heated, add 1/3 cup of honey or sugar to it, along with the ginger and garlic and stir until dissolved. 4) At this point, it's add a bit to taste. If you think it needs more garlic, add a little more garlic, needs more ginger, add more ginger, and so on. Once it's to your liking, let it thicken some. 5) Cool your Teriyaki sauce down by removing from the heat and transfer to a container. This sauce keeps best in the fridge in an air tight container. How long it keeps, I have no idea, it's gone in my house before it has a chance to go bad. I put this stuff on everything, even eggs. Use it for marinating or cooking or just seasoning, this sauce is multipurpose! |
